Man United Considers Sacking Erik Ten Hag; Plans to Appoint Former Player

Former Everton chairman Keith Wyness has suggested that Manchester United might turn to former player Michael Carrick as their next manager.

Although Erik ten Hag is still in charge, he is under immense pressure, with ongoing speculation about his future.

As rumors swirl about potential replacements, Wyness believes United could consider Carrick, who is currently managing Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Carrick, who briefly served as United’s caretaker manager, played 464 matches for the club between 2006 and 2018.

In an interview with Football Insider, Wyness said: “There are various rumors about whether they will go for someone like Thomas Tuchel or opt for Michael Carrick, taking a more managerial coach approach rather than appointing a big-name figure like Tuchel.”

He continued, “I think they might choose the latter path, aiming to restore the Manchester United ethos with an ex-player like Carrick managing the team.”

“He’s proven to be a very capable manager, so that’s where I think they may lean. But no one knows for sure what direction Ratcliffe will take.”

Wyness also reflected on the club’s difficult situation: “They are feeling the effects of a tough off-season when many thought Ten Hag would be dismissed.”

“All these issues are surfacing now, and it’s a major problem for Manchester United. We’re already seven games into the season, and things don’t look promising.”

United have managed to win only two of their first seven Premier League matches this season, marking a disappointing start.

However, Ten Hag has some credit to his name, having led the club to Carabao Cup and FA Cup victories in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

The Red Devils will be back in action on October 19, when they face Brentford at Old Trafford.
