Harry Maguire is being linked with a potential departure from Manchester United as the January transfer window approaches.
The 31-year-old defender, who joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million, is in the final year of his contract, which is set to expire in 2025. However, the club has the option to extend his deal for an additional season.
This season, Erik ten Hag has utilized Maguire in nine matches, with the defender starting in six of them.
Maguire recently sustained a muscle injury during the goalless draw against Aston Villa, and reports now suggest that he may be on his way out of Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Star, United are prepared to let Maguire leave in the January transfer window.
The club is reportedly open to offers for the England international, with just six months remaining on his contract.
The report states that United have set an asking price of £10 million for clubs interested in signing Maguire in January, a significant drop from the £80 million fee they paid six years ago.
In 2023, Maguire was heavily linked with a transfer to West Ham, but United rejected a £30 million bid from the Hammers at the time. Now, the club appears to have drastically reduced their valuation of the centre-back.
If United are unable to secure a move for Maguire in January, the report indicates that they plan to activate the one-year extension clause in his contract, potentially allowing them to find a buyer next summer.
United’s centre-back options were bolstered in the summer with the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. However, Yoro has yet to make his competitive debut due to a foot injury.
